New Product: Sour Cherry Eau de Vie!

Sour Cherry Eau de Vie is a cherry brandy made with sour cherries grown right here at Cold Garden. It’s in extremely limited quantities and quite possibly one time only! It’s not every year we get a bumper crop of cherries, so at the very least it’ll be a little while before it comes back. This product pops with bright cherry flavor, and unlike most cherry spirits it is not sweet! If you like sloe gins or gin fruit cups then this is definitely something you should try! Also check out our YouTube page to see us make a Manhattan using Cold Garden Bourbon, Pommeau, and Sour Cherry Eau de Vie.

In case you haven’t heard, we have some really exciting new products, namely Maple Bourbon and Bourbon Aged Maple Syrup. These are a collaboration with North Family Farm, another Canterbury operation, and run by Greg’s brother, Tim, and sister-in-law, Jill. Tim and Jill have been producing syrup from the woods around the distillery for years, and now we’re teaming up to produce the best maple/bourbon products you’ve ever had.

Bourbon Barrel Aged Maple Syrup: Bourbon has to be aged in brand new oak barrels, which means that once we empty one it can’t be used again… So we sent a couple barrels up the hill and Tim and Jill filled them with syrup. The product is divine. The flavor of bourbon just peaks through the maple enough to give it a little bite, but doesn’t overwhelm it. This is equally great for pancakes or as a simple syrup replacement in mint juleps and other bourbon cocktails… Or if you grew up around here, you might just drink it neat.

Maple Bourbon: Well after they emptied the syrup out of that bourbon barrel we asked for it back! We refilled it with aged bourbon and let it infuse with the maple flavor before bottling. This version of our bourbon has just a hint of maple to it. A slight sweetness and mellowness that marries perfectly with the vanilla notes of our standard bourbon.

Come by and try both at our tasting room!

About Cold Garden Spirits

In 1950, two-year-old Greg Meeh moved with his parents (back-to-the-land Quakers) to a rundown Shaker house in Canterbury, New Hampshire. There, Greg learned about farming, cows, and how to build and grow anything.

His college years at the University of New Hampshire led him to a career as an award-winning special effects designer in New York City (Jauchem & Meeh Special Effects).

But after 30+ years working on Broadway, he decided it was time to return to his home-place for a new challenge - a distillery to be built in the barn of his childhood home. One that would produce exquisite spirits from locally-sourced fruits and grains.

With the addition of a gorgeous custom-built Austrian still, Greg transformed his barn into Cold Garden Spirits.  And in the summer of 2016, he began producing his first batches of corn whiskey and fruit eau de vie.

The only place you can taste and purchase Cold Garden's spirits is on-site, but that's the way of things rare and regional, right?

Still, if you need a little additional motivation, we are 1/8 mile from Canterbury Shaker Village and 1.5 miles from New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Fox Country Smokehouse and Canterbury Aleworks.
